Prakasam Krishi Vigyan Kendra is tile farm science centre of Indian Council of Agriculture Research, New Delhi under the control of a N.G.O. Grama Nava Nirman Samithi It has been established in June 1992 with its training venue located at Jammikunta 54 Kms away from Karinmagar District on Kazipet New Delhi Railway line. The present structure consists the disciplines i.e. Crop Production, Plant Protection, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Home Science and fisheries.


What is the mandate of KVK:
Conduct of Training programmes to practicing farmer, Rural youth and Extension functionaries.

Conduct of Front line demonstrations on Pulses, Oil seeds, Cotton and major crops of the district to show the performance of new varieties and latest technologies.

Conduct of On-Farm Testings for location specific problems and technology refinements
in Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries & Home Science.

Conduct of Agricultural Exhibitions, Rythu sadassu, Kisan melas. Field days. Ex training meetings and farmer scientist interaction programmes to propagate the new technologies and to solve the need based problems.

Production and supply of quality seeds / planting material. Live stock to the farmers.

What are the main functions of the KVK:

(h) Maintaining of utilization farm with different demonstration units.
(i) Popularization of farm implements.

Horticulture :
(a) Farm advisory services.
(b) Conducting of trainings.
(c)  Diagnostic field visits.
(d) Maintaining of mango nursery and mango orchard on the farm
(e) Conducting of front line demonstrations and on farm trials.
(f) Popularization of horticultural tools.

Animal Husbandry :
(a) Supply of Giriraja Birds.
(b) Maintaining of Dairy, Poultry, Sheep and Goat demonstration units.
(c) Maintaining of fodder demonstration units.
(d) Animal Clinical Services.
(e) Conducting of trainings
(f) Economic strengthening of rural community through women Dairy Project
(g) Maintaining of milk collection centers.
(h) Breed development through AJ. Centers and by supply of breeding rams and bucks.



Fisheries :
(a) Conducting of trainings to fishermen, progressive fish farmers and extension Personals.
(b) Farm advisory services.
(c) Conducting of on-farm-trials.
(d) Formation of fishermen Cooperative Societies.
(e) Maintaining of fisheries demonstration units ie. Composite culture pond and
      variety fishes.
(f ) Creating awareness on Thai-Magur cultivation and its adverse effects.
(g) Conducting exposure visits.
(h) Popularization of Scanpi culture.
(i) Maintaining of Scampi culture demonstration unit

Home Science :
(a) Conducting  training's  to rural women in the fields of cloth bag stitching, mushroom
      cultivation, preservation of fruits and vegetables, preparation of spice mixes,
      dying and printing, crochet wire bag mailing embroidery and garment making
      and preparation of weaning foods.
(b) Vermi culture unit- supply of vermin compost and vermi-culture.
(c) Strengthening of self-help groups.
(d) Maintenance of bio-intensive kitchen gardens.

Natural Resource Management:
(a) Implementing 17 watershed development programmes m the district under
      the APHM&EP, IWDP and RLDF-IV schemes.
(b) Area concerned under afforestation is 152 Hect., Horticulture 265 Beet, Silvi pasture
      51 Hect., Avenue plantation 16.5 Kms., and the area concerned under trenches is
      18 Hect.
(c) Formation of users groups and self help groups .and were trained in the fields
     of Agriculture and allied subjects.

The KVK has access to a pool of highly trained and experienced technical experts, management specialists and development experts in all fields of Agriculture and allied fields and rural development   The institute is working in close association with various Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations, Universities, Research institutes and all the officials and voluntary organization in the district.
